This video is a glimpse into how US military counter-insurgency strategy is struggling to win the support of the Afghan People. With the objective to secure the civilian population, US troops face a difficult task, unable to differentiate between insurgents and civilians. Afghan villagers complain that intrusive raids and civilian casualties are creating immense hostility towards the Americans.

3000 US Army soldiers of 10th Mountain Division deployed to Logar and Wardak provinces outside Kabul- the first US reinforcements to Afghanistan of 2009. They will be followed by an additional 20,000 US troops that will deploy to break a military stalemate reached with the Taliban. 155 US soldiers were killed last year and the summer fighting is expected to be the heaviest since the war began.

Civilian casualties have mounted, with over 2000 last year, a 40% increase over the year before. The Afghan government reported that on May 4th, 140 civilians were killed in US air strikes in the village of Granai.
